We started off trying to master RP, but over the course of the classes, my priorities changed: I realised that everyone had their own way of speaking and my goal became not to have accent as my defining feature. With my previous accent coach, we got to the point where everything was great in theory and yet, my friends pointed out that my accent had not changed at all. After a year, I felt defeated and it seemed like the most impossible thing in the world to be able to do RP on stage. Shaun is very honest and doesn’t let things slide, which made all the difference  because I became aware of where the problems lie and where I need practice. I’m now much more confident about my voice and I no longer shy away from auditions where native accents are required – I am also more aware of the sounds and rhythm that consitute a certain accent and I can listen to and understand other accents better as well.
